Loosely based on the exploits of the larger-than-life Catholic priest Father Patrick Manogue, “His Name is Michael” explores the intersection of the natural and supernatural, set in Virginia City, Nevada, circa 1867. Shortly after the mining bonanza that turned Virginia City into the most important industrial city between Denver and San Francisco, Father Manogue, the only priest in the state of Nevada, would quickly develop a reputation as “Wyatt Earp with a collar”, striking fear into the hearts of disreputable men and drawing respect, admiration and love from everyone he helped. “His Name is Michael” seeks to answer a question: what is your name?

A beautiful and touching story of redemption with no lulls in the action and with incredible child actors. I want to see it again.

Cast & Crew Members

Jeromy Darling as Father Manogue

Jeromy is an actor & songwriter based in Minneapolis. Having starred in numerous stage productions, films and television shows, “His Name is Michael” is his 1st foray into playwriting and is part of a trilogy of scifi-themed stories that each take place 100 years apart. You can read more about his life and work at jeromydarling.com.

Wyatt Darling as Michael

Wyatt (Jeromy’s oldest son) began “kid modeling” at 6 years old but with his breakout performance in the award-winning short film “Strung”, released in 2021, and the 6 “best young actor” awards that followed, Wyatt is primed to make a splash in the Minneapolis/St. Paul theatre scene.

Kurt Larson as The Conductor

Kurt is an accomplished singer, songwriter, composer, and performer who has toured a good portion of the US with Jeromy, through their collaborative prison endeavor “The Salvage Project”. His stage debut was also at Open Window Theatre, in 2016, providing an elaborate, live soundtrack to Everyman. Audiences are in for an unprecedented musical experience with Kurt at the helm, in a role few performers or musicians would have the courage to undertake.

Dawson Elhke as Raim/The King

Dawson Elhke is a Minneapolis-based actor whose recent turn as the murder-turned-monk Alessandro Serrenelli in the Open Window Theatre hit “Mercy Unrelenting” quickly moved him out of the “up and coming” status and into a full-fledged leading man.

Caecilia Hipp as Sister Mary Catherine

Caecilia spent 7 months in a religious community, after high school, before discerning that God had other plans for her life. She enrolled at the University of Mary for a year to study vocal performance and is now pursuing the Arts. It’s certainly no coincidence that her stage debut would see her playing the role of a nun.

Augustine Stanbary as Gregory

Augustine, the precocious son of Open Window Theatre founders Jeremy and Sarah Stanbary, is no stranger to the stage as a member of the Young Actors Academy. He was last seen in their ’22 Christmas production of “Nicholas” (playing the younger version of St. Nick), and featured heavily in a number of shows for them in 2021. Still, this play marks a first the young actor: the character of Gregory was explicitly written for him.

Stephen O'Toole (Director)

Stephen has been a Twin Cities-based theatre practitioner for 30 years, has taught and directed at Century College, Lyric Arts, Elk River Community Theatre, Lakeshore Players, and Festival Theatre, and was a company member for 5 seasons with Door Shakespeare in Door County, WI. At Open Window Theatre, Stephen has been privileged to direct THE POTTING SHED and assisted direction for 3 other productions with Jeromy: LOLEK, SCRUTINIES, and FRASSATI. Stephen holds an MFA in Theatre Arts and an M.Ed., from the University of Minnesota.

Kathryn Humnick (Stage Manager)

Kathryn is a graduate of Wheaton College and their theatre ensemble, Workout. She is the resident Stage Manager at Open Window Theatre as well as box office manager and administrative assistant. Previously at OWT she stage-managed LOLEK, FRASSATI, SCRUTINIES, A Christmas Carol, and George Orwell’s 1984. She voiced loudspeaker announcements in 1984 and played the highly-touted Multi-Character Gal in their recent production of Leaving Iowa.
